Dermabrasion in Melbourne, FL
If you want a clear, smooth complexion with a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, consider a dermabrasion treatment at Essentials Medispa & Salon. Our specialized skin care experts provide dermabrasion treatments under the direction of anti-aging physician Dr. Michael Lesser for residents of Orlando, Melbourne, and Central Florida.
What is Dermabrasion?
Dermabrasion uses a controlled surgical scraping technique to “refinish” the skin’s outermost layers. Dermabrasion treatments scrape away surface irregularities, imparting a smoother appearance and increased suppleness to skin.
How Does Dermabrasion Work?
At Essentials Medispa & Salon, we use the DermaSweep™ system to perform gentle dermabrasion either on small areas of skin or over the entire face. By scraping off the skin’s outermost layer, this treatment diminishes the appearance of surface imperfections and triggers increased production of collagen, improving the skin’s texture and appearance by encouraging the growth of healthy new skin cells.
What Does Dermabrasion Treat?
Dermabrasion is useful in treating a variety of conditions. DermaSweep™ is especially excellent for treating:
- Aging skin
- Lines and wrinkles in the eye area
- Fine lines
- Acneic skin
- Rough, uneven skin texture
- Dry and dehydrated skin
- Sensitive skin
- Improving overall skin health
DermaSweep™ Epi-infusion Treatment – (50 minutes)
The advanced DermSweep™ technology takes micro-resurfacing to the next level through a unique, customizable treatment approach. The proprietary bristle treatment tips gently lift away the top layer of skin and increase circulation to enhance lymphatic drainage, oxygenation, and the delivery of key nutrients directly to skin cells. Exclusive infusion solutions formulated with cutting-edge ingredients are added to target specific skincare concerns, providing visible, dramatic improvements in just one treatment.
Is Dermabrasion Painful?
Depending on the extent of your treatment, we may use a topical numbing agent, or local anesthesia combined with a sedative to make you drowsy and ensure your total comfort during the procedure.
What Can I Expect After Dermabrasion?
During the dermabrasion procedure, the aesthetician gently scrapes away the skin’s outermost layer, scraping only as deeply as necessary to diminish the appearance of surface imperfections and produce a smooth and even “finish.” Your skin will appear radiant and luminous following treatment.
Immediately after the procedure, your skin will be pink and swollen, and you may experience soreness and a mild stinging sensation. In some cases, normal facial gestures such as smiling, eating, and speaking may be temporarily impaired. We will prescribe medications to help alleviate any discomfort from the procedure. Swelling and soreness will naturally subside within a few days to a week.
After a few days, a scab or crust may form over the treated skin as it begins to heal, and eventually this dead skin will peel off as a new layer of fresh, pink skin surfaces. This process may cause itching, but you must refrain from touching or irritating the skin during this period. We will recommend a special ointment you can use to make you more comfortable during this process.
You will receive detailed instructions on how to care for your skin after treatment. Men will have to suspend shaving facial hair during the recovery period, and use an electric razor when shaving for the first time after treatment. You must follow your post-procedure care instructions precisely to ensure the best possible results.
Most patients are able to resume normal activity in about two weeks, but you must avoid certain sports for a period of about four to six weeks. You must also avoid sun and wind exposure, as well as chlorinated pool water for at least four weeks. Over a period of about four weeks, you may experience a flush of redness in your skin when consuming alcohol. Most importantly, you must protect your skin from sunlight until the skin’s natural pigment has fully returned, which may take about six to twelve months. We recommend you commit to using a daily sun protection product with SPF 30 or higher in order to protect your skin from photodamage.
Dermabrasion can remove imperfections from the surface of your skin, giving you a smoother texture and more even skin tone.
