DERMAPLANING IN MELBOURNE, FL

If you’re looking to achieve the smoothest possible skin texture, consider a dermaplaning treatment at Essentials Medispa & Salon in Melbourne. Our licensed aestheticians are specialized in this treatment and work under the direction of four-time board certified physician Michael Lesser, MD. Dermaplaning and other non-surgical cosmetic procedures are provided with excellence for our patients in Brevard County and neighboring areas in Central Florida.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a 10 gauge surgical scalpel to gently scrape off the outermost layer of dead skin to uncover a smoother, brighter complexion.

Dermaplaning is an easy, safe procedure for exfoliating the top layer of dead skin and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair often referred to as peach fuzz. By removing the top dead skin layer, your products will penetrate better and will leave your skin glowing and refreshed. Our trained medical aestheticians have received specialty training on this advanced technique.

The word dermaplaning and the fact that a blade is used may sound scary, but the treatment itself is actually very relaxing. Also, you might think using a blade on the face will cause the hair on your face to grow back more coarse, but this is untrue. Your skin will be baby soft post-procedure, with a rosy glow. You will notice your products work better, the texture and tone of your skin improves and the overall appearance of your skin is healthier.

Who Should Perform Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning should be administered by a  licensed aesthetician, trained and specialized in this procedure. At Essentials Medispa & Salon, our specialized aestheticians are duly qualified and experienced in this procedure and provide this service for our patients regularly, with excellent results.

What Are the Benefits of Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning produces an ultra-smooth facial surface and is widely used by models and those in the entertainment industry. It eliminates peach fuzz, which can cake up under makeup and mar its visible smoothness, a problem that becomes particularly noticeable under harsh production lighting and sophisticated cameras. Dermaplaning creates a smooth, flawless canvas for makeup to glide on smoothly, while also encouraging greater penetration of skin care products.

Dermaplaning also makes the skin’s surface more receptive to other treatments. Some cosmetic dermatologists and aestheticians use dermaplaning to prepare the skin for more elaborate procedures such as laser treatments, chemical peels, and facials. Dermaplaning uses no harsh chemicals and is safe for use on pregnant women and those with sensitive skin.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is recommended for almost all skin types, but if you suffer from acne, you must wait until your skin clears up before undergoing this treatment.  For those with acne, we can offer a treatment plan to clear the acne and prepare your skin for dermaplanning.  During your intake consultation, our specialist will evaluate your skin type and condition to determine if you are a good candidate for this treatment.

Is Dermaplaning Painful?

The dermaplaning procedure is painless and takes about 30 minutes. The sensation may be compared to shaving your legs, as you can feel the blade scraping off the outermost layer of skin tissue.

Does Dermaplaning Require Any Downtime?

There is no risk of allergic reaction or side effects with dermaplaning, and the procedure requires no downtime.  In some cases irritation such as “razor burn” may occur, but this is mostly seen in patients with sensitive skin.

What Can I Expect After Dermaplaning?

Your skin will look and feel softer, smoother, and more radiant than ever after a dermaplaning treatment. All of your peach fuzz will be gone, resulting in a flawlessly smooth texture. Following the treatment, your skin will look slightly pink and will be extremely sensitive to sun exposure. You must commit to using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation or added sun damage. Dermaplaning removes about 3 weeks’ worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to wait at least another 3 weeks before scheduling your next treatment. Dermaplaning may be performed regularly with no ill effects and may be combined with other procedures to enhance their results.
